Our Operations Plan was released a few days after map and on-site recons of the camping area at the Northeast Service Center of National Recreation and Park Association on Belmont Ridge Road and after coordination with the camp headquarters and with members of the Loudoun Amateur Radio Group. A nice operating base along a tree line was chosen. It stood alone with easy access to other operating areas of the camp.
Our operation began on Friday afternoon,
April 20, 2001. A new shelter with a canvas top that was designed and built
by Norm Styer, AI2C, was the first thing to be assembled. Larry McCaig, KC1YC,
Mary Oliphant, KF4UUY, and Bob Oliphant, KF4VBM, helped with the shelter
and Radio Checks. While operating on 2 Meters, good contacts were made with
Charlie Preston, K4LJH, in Hamilton, John Unger, W4AU, operating mobile on
the Greenway, Erik Werner, KD5CTJ, both mobile and from his home location
and with Bob Bee, W4POF, northeast of Lucketts. Larry, KC1YC, installed
his OutBacker Antenna and his Yaesu FT-100 and had several good contacts
on 40 Meters including one with Charlie, K4LJH. By 5 PM on Friday we were
ready to operate.

visited and made a few new friends.
The log shows Vincent talked to John, K5XL, operating on his
"motorcycle in motion" in Arlington, Texas.
He plans to earn his Radio Merit Badge and pass his Amateur Radio License
Examination this summer..
There were over four-hundred Scouts in camp. We had a steady flow of visiting Scouts throughout the day. Many QSOs were made throughout Loudoun County and a few across the United States. The Scouts couldn't stay long as there were many other thing to do. Those that did stop by were quite interested in our activities.
The K4LRG Radio Log shows 48 QSOs on 2-Meters and 68 QSOs on HF. We had six LARG Operators On Site and eleven LARG members participate as Out Stations. Special thanks goes to Larry McCaig, KC1YC, Mary Oliphant, KF4UUY, Bob Oliphant, KF4VBM, Paul Dluehosh, N4PD, Mike Lonneke, WoYR and Norm Styer, AI2C for On-Site Operations. And a special thank you to Denny Boehler, KF4TJI, for printing our new Code Cards designed by Norm, AI2C. Likewise, a special thanks to our LARG Out-Station Operators: John Unger, W4AU, Charlie Preston, K4LJH, Ray Houff, K4AJA, Mike Lonneke, WoYR, Erik Werner, KD5CTJ, Bob Bee, W4POF, Paul Dluehosh, N4PD, Chester Kmak, WA9LAZ, Bill Tincher, WB4ACC, Bob Oliphant, KF4VBM, and Buddy Brewer, KG4MGC.
